Abstract

Looking at the shipment volume of the Greater Chinese netbook PC industry in 2010, the industry had suffered from three consecutive quarters of decline. The decline was mainly attributed to the fact that market demand for netbook PC has become lukewarm and has been replaced by tablet PC products such as iPad, which is significantly eroding netbook PC market share. In addition, as the economic condition in the North American market, one of major sales regions for netbook PCs, remained unclear and yet to be fully recovered from the global economic crisis, consumers' willingness to purchase netbook PCs have been further affected. The Greater Chinese netbook PC industry's shipment volume, therefore, is expected to have totaled approximately 5.908 million units in the third quarter of 2010, down 8.9% sequentially and 15% year-on-year.
